KRUGER NATIONAL PARK (SOUTH AFRICA)

Kruger National Park is the largest and most popular game reserve in South Africa. Our experience in Kruger began with a bull elephant pulling down a tree, completely blocking our access to the property, but the treachous entry to this park was just the start of our excitement in seeing all of Africa's "Big Five" ~ Elephants, Rhinos, Lions, Cape Buffalo and Leopards.

At the main gate to Addo Elephant National Park, we were greeted with a letter that stated the Park is home to the densest elephant population on earth. It also requested that we be mindful of the little creatures that are difficult to see and to avoid driving over any dung on the road.

Belonging to Spain and lying arms-length off the coast of Africa, the Canary Islands is a chained archipelago much like the Hawaiian Islands. Similarly, these seven islands are richly inhabited, yet each unique in culture, landscape and experiences. We chose to visit these islands as they are rarely visited by Americans and found that each island has its own special appeal. During our travels, we quickly discovered why the Canaries are a popular holiday destination for many Europeans, and not so much by Americans.

PLACENCIA, BELIZE

In search for unusual travel destinations, we wandered down the east coast of Central America to a quaint region of Belize that only 20 years ago could be accessed by fishing boats. In discovering Placencia, near the Guatemalan border, we found tropical accommodations and an adventurous environment (or the other way around.) We were especially intrigued by the fact that its original inhabitants of this area were rum-drinking buccaneers.

MONKEY RIVER, BELIZE

During our stay in Placencia, we selected to take a river boat tour for a real jungle experience. Leaving civilization as we know it, our search began for a glimpse of elusive Keel-billed Toucan and the much-touted Black Howler Monkeys, or as the Belizean natives call them “Baboons”.
